While antioxidants, as anti-aging essentials, are key ingredients in all Chamonix skin care products, no single ingredient, but a synergy of carefully selected and combined natural ingredients, is what delivers the long-term clinical skin care benefits: collagen building, improved cross-linking of collagen, protection from free radical damage, cellular nourishment and improved moisture content.

The combination of ingredients is key, because even the best organic skin care ingredients will be ineffective in a poor-quality base. The majority of anti-aging skin care products on store shelves and display cases, from Wal-Mart to Nordstrom, use mineral oil as a base. Far from being useful, or even harmless, as an anti-aging treatment, mineral oil (also known as paraffin and petrolatum) is a byproduct from the distillation of petroleum in the production of gasoline. It is produced cheaply in very large quantities, and the FDA approves it for use in skin care products – even though it’s no different from the oil you put in your car. It’s inorganic, non-biodegradable, and definitely does not belong on your face.

So why do so many people use anti-aging skin creams, eye wrinkle creams and other anti-aging treatments that have a mineral oil base? Initially, mineral oil makes your skin shiny, and it does seal in moisture. It also seals your pores. This causes inflammation because the pores become clogged with toxins and oxygen-deprived. It’s essential to reverse this process, because over time, it results in the breakdown of collagen, the protein responsible for skin strength and elasticity. Collagen degradation is what causes wrinkles, so it’s no surprise that the vast majority of anti-wrinkle creams don’t work.

Rather than using mineral oil as a base, Chamonix skin care products use a proprietary base of calendula flower extract, which has been used for thousands of years in natural healing. It delivers more of the antioxidants and other beneficial active skin care ingredients into the skin without any harmful effects. And, rather than using pharmaceutical preservatives, we import a natural preservative from France comprised of amino acids. It doesn’t clog pores or cause allergic reactions, and there is no oily residue.
